DR. RIAZ DISCUSSES PEYTON MANNING’S FUTURE

Peyton Manning Press Conference and FutureBy Jaboner Jackson 8 a.m. | Yesterday, the Indianapolis Colts did exactly what our team medical expert, Hassan A. Riaz, MD, MBA, has been saying for the last several months--they released Peyton Manning because of health problems. I caught up with Dr. Riaz to discuss the latest developments with Manning and to project his future. As always, Dr. Riaz is not treating the patient in question and is relying on publically available information to form his medical opinions. (Catch up on all of Dr. Riaz's definitive opinions on Manning here.)

DR. RIAZ DISCUSSES PEYTON MANNING’S BONE SPURS AND FOURTH SURGERY

Peyton Manning Fourth 4th Surgery Dr Riaz FootballphdsBy Jaboner Jackson 8 a.m. | Yesterday, Don Banks of SI.com put together a troubling picture of Peyton Manning's health. Banks spoke about a "fourth, unreported, medical procedure" for Manning this past offseason. Over the last several months, our team medical expert, Hassan A. Riaz, MD, MBA, has provided the most medically comprehensive analysis of Manning's health available, and so I once again called on Dr. Riaz to help us understand some of the revelations in the SI article. Surprisingly, Dr. Riaz debunked many of the assertions made by Banks.  As always, Dr. Riaz is not treating the player in question and is relying on publically available information to form his medical opinions. (Brief yourself on Dr. Riaz's prior thoughts on Manning here.)

DR. RIAZ EXPLAINS PEYTON MANNING’S MEDICAL CLEARANCE

Peyton Manning Neck Surgery Injury Dr RiazBy Jaboner Jackson 11:30 p.m. | Today, Peyton Manning received medical clearance from his surgeon in Los Angeles to resume football.  In order to understand what this means, I once again reached out to our team medical expert, Dr. Hassan A. Riaz, MD, MBA, who has covered extensively the Manning neck injury for footballphds.com.  In fact, Dr. Riaz has delivered the definitive opinion in the media on Manning's injury and future.  Long before it became vogue to wonder about Manning's future, Dr. Riaz expressed hesitation, saying in July 2011 that he "would be hesitant to sign Manning to a lucrative long-term deal."  And sure enough, that hesitation is now being expressed by the Indianapolis Colts.  As always, Dr. Riaz is not treating the player in question and is relying on publically available information to form his medical opinions.  (To refresh yourself on Manning's injury, read here.)

UPDATE ON PEYTON MANNING’S NECK INJURY WITH OUR MEDICAL EXPERT

peyton manning neck injury 2By Jaboner Jackson 8 a.m. |  This week, the Indianapolis Colts and owner Jim Irsay continued to clean house on a team that went 2-14 in the 2011-12 NFL season.  Earlier this month, Irsay fired Bill and Chris Polian, the father-son duo that was the de facto General Manager for the Colts.  Although praise for Bill Polian had run deep during the Colts' successful years, the weaknesses throughout the roster became evident in 2011 when QB Peyton Manning sat out the season with a neck injury.  This week, the Colts fired head coach Jim Caldwell, who epitomized stoicism on the Colts’ sideline by choosing to never speak into his headset.   In order to understand the future of Peyton Manning on the Colts, I discussed the medical issues surrounding his neck injury with our team medical expert, Hassan A. Riaz, MD, MBA, who has extensively covered Manning's neck injury with me on this site.  As always, Dr. Riaz is not treating the player in discussion.

DR. RIAZ DISCUSSES WHETHER PEYTON MANNING WILL EVER PLAY AGAIN

Will Peyton Manning Ever Play AgainBy Jaboner Jackson 8 a.m. | Yesterday, the Indianapolis Colts announced the obviousPeyton Manning will not play this season.  Furthermore, Jim Caldwell stated that Manning will not practice this season either.  Our medical expert, Hassan A. Riaz, MD, MBA, has been skeptical of Manning’s return to football for the 2011-12 season and beyond since the offseason, when Manning underwent his second and then third career spinal surgeries.  I caught up with Dr. Riaz to discuss the latest news on Manning, including whether Manning will every play again in the NFL.  As always, Dr. Riaz is not treating the player in question.

REVIEWING PEYTON MANNING’S NECK SURGERY WITH DR. RIAZ

Colts Bengals FootballBy Jaboner Jackson 8 am | I have investigated Peyton Manning’s neck injury three times with our team medical expert, Hassan A. Riaz, MD, MBA, over the past two months, the last time being three days ago when Dr. Riaz expressed doubt that Manning would return to play for the 2011 NFL season.  Even two months ago, he was concerned.  I caught up with Dr. Riaz one final time this morning over the phone to review Manning’s neck surgery from yesterday.  Like always, Dr. Riaz is not treating the player being discussed and is relying upon publically available information to form his opinions.

TAKING ANOTHER LOOK AT PEYTON MANNING’S NECK INJURY WITH DR. RIAZ

Peyton Manning Neck Surgery Injury Dr RiazBy Jaboner Jackson 8 am | I’ve reviewed Peyton Manning’s neck injury and surgery with our team medical expert, Hassan A. Riaz, MD, MBA, twice already over the past two months.  Dr. Riaz was pessimistic in both of our discussions.  The Colts confirmed this weekend that Manning has been soliciting additional medical opinions regarding his neck injury and that he will not play in Week 1.  Reports out of Indy have suggested that Manning will miss the first few weeks at least, which is consistent with what Dr. Riaz said a couple of weeks ago.  I caught up with Dr. Riaz over the phone to hash out the latest developments.  As always, Dr. Riaz is not treating the player being discussed and is relying upon publically available information to form his opinions.
