By Jessica C. (with concept by Jaboner Jackson) 8 a.m. | Chip Kelly and the Philadelphia Eagles traded up in 2013 NFL Draft to secure USC quarterback Matt Barkley. Our NFL Draft expert, Rock Mayock, has never been enamored with the 6'2" Lane Kiffin protégé, ranking him during the spring as the seventh best quarterback available for 2013, which included not only college players but also veteran quarterbacks who could have been had via trade or free agency. Whether or not Barkley pans out as a legitimate NFL quarterback remains to be seen but Kelly has stayed true to his mantra when selecting a quarterback. With Barkley, he picked the quarterback with the big hands.
By Jaboner Jackson 12:45 pm | I caught up with our team medical expert, Hassan A. Riaz, MD, MBA, to discuss Mike Vick’s concussion, which he sustained in a loss yesterday against the Atlanta Falcons. As always, Dr. Riaz is not treating the player in question and is relying on publically available information to form his opinions.
By Doubletap Jenkins III 10pm| Now that I can take a break from wining and dining the list of people Jaboner needed me to pump info from, I finally got a chance to fly to Atlanta for the weekend to see some of my peoples in Falcon Country, including my friends at Grand Hustle. As we know, our good friend T.I., who we enjoy watching Falcons games with, is out of prison, and will be starring in a reality show for BET2, I mean VH1. What else is going on with our man T.I.P.?
By Jaboner Jackson 8 am | It's no secret that I'm not a fan of preseason NFL football but last night I sucked it up and watched at least parts of all three Thursday night's Week 3 games. Week 3 games are usually the most representative of a team’s status since starters oftentimes play an entire half. Here are quick hits from each game. Since scores are irrelevant in preseason football, I don't talk about the outcome of the game.
By Jaboner Jackson 8 am | We take a brief break from Stank Rank Week to catch up with our medical expert, Hassan A. Riaz, MD, MBA, regarding the mysterious illness that has sidelined Jeremy Maclin of the Philadelphia Eagles for all of training camp. We discussed him last week but now Maclin has finally spoken publically. Dr. Riaz is relying on publically available information to form his opinions and is not treating the aforementioned patients. Our phone conversation follows:
By Rock Mayock 7:30AM Since the lock out ended, it has been a Vin Diesel like fast and furious week of free agent signing. One of the big winners in the free agent free for all is the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles have already traded for Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, signed Nnamdi Asomugha, and also signed Vince Young.
By Jaboner Jackson 10 am | Even though it was the easiest prediction to make after the Oakland Raiders extended a big money contract to cornerback Stanford Routt before the NFL Lockout began, cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha did not officially become an ex-Raider until yesterday, when he signed a 5-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles worth $60 million with $25 million guaranteed. The most surprising news regarding the official changing of the cornerback lineup in Oakland is not that Asomugha left but that the Raiders essentially paid the same to retain Routt as the the Eagles did to snare Asomugha.
