NFL IN LA: JABONER JACKSON HAS RETURNED FROM BRAZIL, PART 2

NFL in LA Financing a football stadium odds and endsBy Jaboner Jackson 8 a.m. | Last week, I reviewed the developments regarding the NFL in LA that have occurred while I have been away in Brazil (Brasil) during the past year. As our Wonderful Readers are aware, the NFL in LA has imploded in my absence. AEG's Farmers Field died, Majestic Realty's Los Angeles Stadium remained the forgotten stepchild, and the NFL pretended to still be interested in Los Angeles as a football market. Today, FOOTBALLPHDS looks ahead to the cloudy future of the NFL in LA by examining what went wrong with Farmers Field and LA Stadium and where the NFL will next place its interest.

UNDERSTANDING THE NFL’S TESTING FOR HUMAN GROWTH HORMONE (HGH)

Classical face and hand changes in acromegaly

Written by Hassan A. Riaz, MD, MBA and posted by Cousin Felipe at 12 pm | With the ratification of the new Collective Bargaining Agreement, the NFL became the first major sports league to begin testing for Human Growth Hormone (HGH), a hormone produced naturally by the body's pituitary gland and which is responsible for several stages of growth during childhood and adolescence.  Although some players, such as Troy Polamalu of the Pittsburgh Steelers, have expressed concern over privacy issues with the testing, the NFL has taken a step in the right direction to curb use of this potentially hazardous substance.

RAIDERS ABSTAIN ON CBA VOTE BECAUSE OF…STADIUM ISSUES?

amy trask raiders do not ratify cbaBy Jaboner Jackson 1030 pm | The real news regarding the new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) that filtered its way through the NFL owners meeting today was not that it was ratified but rather that the Oakland Raiders abstained from voting on it.  Amy Trask, CEO of the Raiders and clearly the closest individual to Al Davis in the organization, stated that the franchise had “profound philosophical differences” and that the issues were both “football and economic in nature.”  Trask also stated that the Raiders did not abstain for any issues related to stadiums.

NFL FREE AGENT AND TRADE PREDICTIONS, PART 1

By Jaboner Jackson 2 pm | With the NFL Lockout set to be officially over this coming weekend, it's time to get a jump start on the multitude of free agent signings that will be taking place over a hectic few days.  Although teams and players are not supposed to have been talking, do not think that it has not been happening (yes, the FOOTBALLPHDS have no problem using a double-negative in our sentences).

CHRIS MORTENSEN WRONG: NEW CBA DOES NOT HAVE ‘CREDITS’ SPECIFICALLY FOR FARMERS FIELD

By Jaboner Jackson 8 am | With the new CBA almost negotiated in full, details have continued to leak out, including provisions reported by Chris Mortensen of ESPN (aka BSPN around FOOTBALLPHDS’ offices) that there will be “credits if three new stadiums are constructed, including one in Los Angeles, where the NFL has not had a team since the 1994 season.”  Mortensen is correct in his understanding that there will be ‘credits’ in the new CBA but he is incorrect in stating that these ‘credits’ are coming to a new stadium in Los Angeles.

LOSS OF 2011 SEASON: 4-1 ODDS

Posted by Jaboner Jackson 8:15 p.m. PST from Las Vegas. After an uneventful NFL Owners Meeting in New Orleans that saw no new progress made on a new CBA and a bunch of yawn-inducing rule changes (sorry Josh Cribbs), FOOTBALLPHDS.COM is conducting its own meeting in Las Vegas to meet with our webmaster and check on our company condo at Turnberry Towers.

CBA UPDATE: DEATH SPIRAL

Posted by Jaboner Jackson at 2:30 p.m. In the week since the NFLPA decertified and became a trade association and the NFL Owners locked out the players, no progress has been made in regards to the CBA.  In fact, the opposite has occurred, as both sides have taken to the media and Twitter to lambast the other side in a game of upping the other.
