ROCK MAYOCK’S WEEKLY ROLL CALL
By Rock Mayock 10:00 a.m. | Another two weeks or so have passed since our last roll call. Without further ado, here are the happenings in the world around us.
- Jaboner Jackson is still missing in action Chuck Norris style in the jungles of Brazil. Cousin Felipe has been dispatched to find our resident NFL stadium financing guru. Although Cousin Felipe was side tracked in San Diego for Comic-Con 2012 on his way to Rio he has assured me that he has some good leads on Jaboner’s whereabouts.
- All time tennis great Roger Federer captured his 7th Wimbledon Champion and 17th overall Grand Slam championship. Read about our man crush on Federer here.
- The 2012/2013 bowl schedule was released. For those of your who are in the mood to lose money, the Oracle of Mayock also released his pre-season favorites to win the BCS Championship.
- The PhDs broke down the upcoming launch of the Pac-12 Network. You can either read the full write up here or catch the Reader’s Digest version here. Reader’s Digest version says that unless you have Bright House Networks, ComCast Cable, Cox Cable of Time Warner Cable you’re S.O.L.
- The PhDs also continued to break down the Cal Memorial Stadium financing debacle in excruciating detail. You can read Part 3 here.
- In non-FOOTBALLPHDS covered news, the Penn St. commissioned Freeh Report was released last week. To describe the report as scathing is an understatement. Yahoo!News did a very good piece on the impact of the Freeh Report and the possibility of either NCAA or DOE issued “death penalty” for the university.
- The NFL franchise tag deadline came and went. For a full run down of who go signed, who got tagged and who got shafted you can read all about it here.
- Our intrepid HR Manager Rochelle M. laid the smack down on the FOOTBALLPHDS’ staff by issuing a strict dress code. Moral of the story, don’t get on Rochelle’s shit list.
- Speaking of HR activity, Rochelle hired personal trainer Brittany Lauren to whip the PhDs’ collective asses into shape. Get to know Brittany Lauren here.
- The 2012 Reebox CrossFit Games took place at the Home Depot Center last weekend. Apparently Rich Froning has been listening to motivational speeches because he killed the WODs like a true champion.
- Speaking of WOD killers, check out this blog post from Jonathan Maseng at LA Weekly questioning the methodology of the FOOTBALLPHDS’ box of preference, CrossFit Mean Streets.
It’s been a busy two weeks. So busy the your man Rock Mayock will be shutting things down this weekend to recharge at the Turnberry Towers condo in Vegas. We’ll be back on Monday to bring more LA spin on the NFL and NCAA.

Death penalty for Penn St is the only acceptable solution. It’s shameful what the administration knowing allowed to happen to children just so Joe Pa wouldn’t look bad. Nothing looks worse than a perv raping kids in a locker room shower. Burn in hell Joe Pa and Jerry.

The sanctions thrwon down by NCAA this morning might as well have been the death penalty. At least the death penalty is immediate and a program can recover in a couple of years. This is more like a hospice terminal illness penalty that will slowly strangle Penn St football into relative obscurity. If the NCAA really wanted to make a symbolic gesture on how strongly they disapproved of Joe, Jerry, Tim and Spanier they should have booted the university from the NCAA altogether. It would be unfortunate for all of the student athletes who had no involvement in matter but it would punish a university that demonstrated absolute institutional control regarding their willful cover up of child abuse. Maybe the Department of Education will have a less forgiving attitude when they complete their Clery Act audit.

I say Death Penalty. It doesn’t get any worse than what happened at Penn Statt

It’s a sad day for Pennsylvania, Happy Valley and the entire Penn State family. I pray for the victims and their families. I hope that someday they will find peace and the strength to move forward with their lives not as victims but survivors. My heart also breaks for the students and athletes at Penn State that will face the stygma of being part of a tarnished legacy. These young men and women have nothing to do with the cowardly acts of a handful of men who believed they were acting in the best interest of the university when in fact they did nothing but undermine it.

Not to be the voice of the lone dissenter, why does the NCAA have any jurisdiction over this matter? This is not a football or unfair competitive advantage problem. This is a legal issue about not reporting crimes being conducted by current/former employees on the campus. The NCAA should let the police and the courts handle this and focus their energy on busting cheaters like Miami and Ohio State.

“Cheaters like Miami and Ohio State…” If that’s not the kettle calling the pot black I don’t know what is TroJohn.
I agree @ Big Blue. They should have killed the program. Let it be a lesson to all of other school programs that are “to big to fail.”

To much cerveza and taquitos last night. I am so hung over but no so hung over that I don’t recognize the NCAA are a bunch of pussies for not booting Penn st out of the association. Ain’t nobody talking about the moral and ethical standards clause that all members of the association are supposed to follow. hiding child rape aint moral or ethical.
