ROCK MAYOCK’S BREW OF THE WEEK
By Rock Mayock 7:30 a.m. | As over 50% of our great nation swelters amid one of the driest and hottest summers in recent history there is a need for relief. The relief that we need is one that will quench the deepest of thirsts. That relief can be found in the form of Allagash Brewing Company’s White Belgian style wheat, better known as Allagash White.
While wheat beers are typically frowned upon by the FOOTBALLPHDS because of their timid flavor profiles and low alcohol content, Allagash White is a unique brew. When poured this brew has a typical wheat light golden hue with a thin white head. It has a very distinct spice, almost cinnamon, smell to it. The taste is an odd yet somehow pleasing combination of orange and cinnamon with no malty aftertaste like you expect to find on an IPA or an Imperial. The mouth feel is excellent making it conducive to quenching your thirst in a hurry.
This is a wheat beer you should not be ashamed to enjoy. On the contrary, feel free to bring a six pack of 12oz bottles to your next backyard BBQ to instantly become the most popular guy in the room. Just don’t be that guy that puts a slice of orange in his wheat beer.
Here is the tale of the tape on Allagash White:
ABV: 5.0%
Serving Temp: 38-50 F
Availability: Year round
Best Enjoyed: 6 months from bottling date
Best Paired With: Seafood, poultry, salads, goat cheese, apple pie and BOING!

Tried it, didn’t love it. I prefer the bite of a good IPA.
