ROCK MAYOCK’S BREW OF THE WEEK: DRAKE’S IPA
By Rock Mayock 11:00 p.m. | We’ve had entirely too much talk about football, debt financing and television contracts this week. If there was only something readily available to us that we could use to divert our attention to more enjoyable endeavors… Perhaps something like a nice brew.
Today we introduce a brew from the San Leandro based Drake’s Brewing Company. Luckily for us Drake’s flagship brew is their West Coast style India Pale Ale (IPA). Drake’s is a stronger IPA (7% ABV) that has strong notes of citrus and pine hop notes that evenly balance the malt. There is a good clean after taste that does not leave an alcohol malty film in the mouth like Port Brewing Hop 15. This is a very good drinking beer that compliments meat (beef) and your favorite salty snacks (I recommend limon chile peanuts).
Here is the tale of the tape on Drake’s:
ABV: 7%
IBUs: 65
Original Gravity: 16.8
Malt: American 2 Row barley, honey
Hops: German Magnum (bittering), Cascade, Falconer’s Flight, Chinook
Dry Hop: Falconer’s Flight, Chinook
Yeast: While Labs 001
Overall Grade: A-
Give Drake’s a try. It’s reasonably priced at $10/6 pack and should be available at your local BevMo! or alcohol purveyor.

You”re better than this Rock. This IPA is WAY to harsh. It’s overly hopped and the bitter hangs around on the palate, especially after it warms up. C-C+ at the very best. Did Drake’s bribe you or something?

BTW, you’re right about Hop 15. your off drinking a bottle of rubbing alcohol instead of that swill.
