By Rock Mayock 11:30 p.m. | While Jaboner Jackson continues his sabbatical from the NFL in LA, the weekly roll call duties have once again fallen upon yours truly, Rock Mayock. Although there is not a lot happening in the world of NFL and NCAA football, there is still plenty popping off in the world of sports, entertainment, politics and general events. Without further ado, here is the run down on the week of May 28, 2012.
The Stanley Cup Finals started this week and the Los Angeles Kings defeated the New Jersey Devils 2-1 in OT to seize a 1-0 series lead. Remarkably the Kings are a perfect 9-0 on the road throughout the 2012 playoffs. The Kings are currently Vegas’ favorite to win the Cup. Who knew LA was a hockey town? Game 2 is tomorrow night at 5:00 p.m. PT and will be broadcast on NBC.
The NBA Conference Finals are also in full swing. The San Antonio Spurs looked unbeatable throughout the playoffs until the Oklahoma City Thunder handed them their first loss of the post season, 82-112, on Thursday night. Don’t fret Spurs fans. Your beloved team still leads the series 2-1 and will likely take a commanding 3-1 lead on Saturday. Tip off is at 5:30 p.m. PT and the game can be seen on TNT.
Falling under the category of “The World Has Gone Bat Shit Crazy,” some off the wall stories made national news this week and they are not for the squeamish. A Florida man under the influence of bath salts (a new LSB like drug) bugged out, proceeded to strip naked and then ate the face of a homeless man. Don’t believe me? You can read about it here. Still don’t believe me? Then go to Google images and search “Florida face eater.” You’re sure to lose your lunch.
This week the FOOTBALLPHDS started our series on the renovation of Cal’s Memorial Stadium. You can read part one here. Dr. Hassan A. Riaz MD, MBA, checked in with our research assistant, Jessica C. to warn about the dangers of Summer sun bathing, Thanks for the good info doc. For a refresher you can read about it here.
If you’re looking for something to do next week, our HR manager Rochelle would like to make the following suggestion. Peter Cetera will be performing at the Orange County Pacific Symphony June 7-June 9. Show times and ticket information can be found here. For some inexplicable reason Rochelle has insisted that I take her to this concert as a “team building exercise.” If you can’t make it the concert then feel free to catch up on some of Cetera’s greatest hits here:
DoubleTap has promised breaking Hollywood news next week. Jaboner sent a text from the jungles of Brazil assuring that he has new Mas Malo Booty Battle fodder and NFL in LA analysis. Rock will continue to break down of the Memorial Stadium renovations and possibly the Pac-12 season primer.
