BREAKING NEWS: MATT LEINART SIGNS WITH THE OAKLAND RAIDERS

By Rock Mayock 9:00 a.m. | No, that is not Darth Raider. It is Heisman Matt Leinart and BFF Nick Lachey as they prepare for either the Toyota Grand Prix or Leinart’s new role as the Raider’s back up QB.  BOING!

On Tuesday the Raiders and Leinart reached agreement on a one year contract. Leinart joining the Raiders will be a reunion of sorts as he will be reunited with former Texans QB coach Greg Knapp who was brought in by GM Reggie McKenzie to serve as the Raiders OC. Leinart has openly praised Knapp’s work during his tenure as Texans QB coach and the already favorable working relation between coach/QB will be nothing but beneficial. Leinart’s signing with the Raiders will also reunite him with Heisman Palmer, the man he backed up at USC. BOING! BOING!

Technically Leinart will “compete” for the backup job with Terrelle Pryor and Rhett Bomar but neither one will pose much of a threat for multiple reasons.

1. Combined both Pryor and Bomar have thrown a grand total of zero passes in the NFL. This is in stark contrast to Leinart’s 608 career pass attempts, 350 career completions and 3,950 career passing yards. BOING! BOING! BOING!

2. The Raiders’ personnel decisions are no longer made by Al Davis. Therefore it is no longer an organizational edict that the QB possess inordinate arm strength as the offense focus is not the vertical game. Just look at Reggie McKenzie’s 2012 draft selections to support this paradigm shift in philosophy.
